War hero and best-selling author Brian Wood joins Hilary Meredith Solicitors as Ambassador
Hilary Meredith Solicitors has appointed war hero and best-selling author Brian Wood as an Ambassador for the firm.
At the age of 23, Brian Wood was thrust into the front line in Iraq, in the infamous Battle of Danny Boy. Ambushed, he led a charge across open ground with insurgents firing at just five soldiers. On his return, he was awarded the Military Cross.
In his recently published, best-selling memoir, Double Crossed: A Code of Honour, A Complete Betrayal, Brian speaks powerfully and movingly about the three battles in his life, from being ambushed with no cover, to the mental battle to adjust at home, to being falsely accused of hideous war crimes.
Commenting on Brian Wood’s appointment as an Ambassador, Hilary Meredith, Chair of Hilary Meredith Solicitors and winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 Manchester Legal Awards said:
“It is an honour to be working with Brian. During his 16-year military career, he led British troops across the full spectrum of battle from training to fighting; from operations in the Balkans to high intensity combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Brian is a truly inspirational man and we have a shared passion to support service personnel, veterans and their families.”
Said Brian Wood:
“I’m delighted to be working with Hilary Meredith Solicitors as an Ambassador.
“The firm is well known in the military community for its support of service personnel and veterans and Hilary is a true legal champion for the armed forces.
“As staunch supporters of the Military Covenant, we share the same values.”
Hilary Meredith Solicitors has a track record for appointing army veterans.
The firm recently recruited Invictus Gold medallist and high-ranking military solicitor, Natalie Robinson as Head of its Armed Forces Compensation Scheme department.
Natalie provided specialist military legal support to the British Army for twelve years, reaching the rank of Major, before being medically discharged in 2015 after an injury on duty led to complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and the partial amputation of her leg.
She served in war zones including Iraq and Afghanistan, performing a range of crucial tasks, from dealing with offences at court martials to advising senior commanders on rules of engagement during operations abroad. Natalie also trained and advised officers on discipline, administrative action and operational law.
As a Solicitor-Advocate she is qualified to represent clients in higher courts, meaning she can appear for service personnel at Appeals to the Armed Forces Compensation Tribunal.
